Our recommended Toastmaster – Roy Austin FEGTTC dropped by last week so we could ask him some questions to help any couples who might be looking for a Toastmaster for their wedding.
How long have you been a Toastmaster and why/how did you decide to become one?
I’ve been a Professional Toastmaster for over 25 years, and was introduced to it by a previous toastmaster when I was a Member of Lions Club International and eventually trained by him. I’ve been invited to be a member of four Professional Guilds and excepted them all in my time. Over those years I have officiated for the following: brides, sport personalities, professional golfers at The Ryder Cup, TV personalities, Peace Envoy from Spain, Members of Parliament, actors and members of The Royal Family to name a few.
What’s the role of a Toastmaster at a wedding and why are they so important?
My role is a project manager for the Bride and Groom, to make certain that all the requirements are met on the day and taking the lead role for all other suppliers on the day. From the moment I am booked I can help and advise the Bride and Groom on all aspects of their day including the planning. This sometimes can be up to two years before their big day.
Do you have any advice for wedding couples when it comes to choosing a Toastmaster?
Don’t just go for the resident toastmaster. You have to be completely convinced he or she is the person for you, we are all individuals.
When it comes to weddings – how do you liaise with the Photographer to make sure the day is special one for the couple?
It’s all about team work – the Photographer has a role to play as I do so it’s about working together and helping out where and when the need arises. It’s about meeting the clients requirements – it’s not about our own personal egos.
How far in advance do Toastmasters need to be booked for weddings?
I have bookings in already two years ahead. I would say once you have booked your venue, book all your preferred suppliers as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
What is your most memorable event?
All my functions are memorable for all sorts of reasons – they are all special.
What’s your favourite venue and why?
The two that stick out of me are – Stoke Park, Stoke Poges – five star venue with exceptional service in all areas and one of which I am the recommended Toastmaster. Also Medici Villa, Artimino, Italy all can be found on my website.
Which areas of the UK do you cover?
My services are Nationwide and Worldwide wherever my client needs me to attend.
If couples were interested in finding out more and how to book you – how should they contact you?
